Where it came from
Sore Ike! Anpanman: Yuurei Sen wo Yattsukero!! was released in 1995 as the seventh feature film in the long-running Anpanman franchise, which originated from Takashi Yanase's picture books. Produced by TMS Entertainment, the film continues the series' established tradition of providing gentle, moral-driven narratives tailored for early childhood audiences, focusing on Anpanman’s conflict against his recurring antagonist, Baikinman, within the context of a ghostly ship adventure.
The film maintains the character designs and thematic consistency developed by Yanase, who sought to create a superhero defined not by violence, but by self-sacrifice and the desire to provide nourishment to those in need. Upon its release, the film was received as a staple of the Japanese summer movie season for children, cementing the franchise's role as a cornerstone of educational entertainment in Japan.
