Sore Ike! Anpanman: Yuuki no Hana ga Hiraku Toki

Sore Ike! Anpanman: Yuuki no Hana ga Hiraku Toki was released in 1999 as the eleventh feature film in the long-running Anpanman series produced by TMS Entertainment. The film follows the tradition of the franchise, which began as a picture book series by Takashi Yanase in 1973, focusing on themes of altruism and the importance of helping others. This specific entry was developed to coincide with the mid-summer theatrical run typical of the series, aiming to provide educational and moral guidance to a young Japanese audience through its gentle, character-driven storytelling.

The film was directed by Akinori Nagaoka, a veteran of the Anpanman universe, who maintained the distinct aesthetic established by the original illustrations. The design reflects the classic, rounded character motifs created by Yanase, intentionally kept simple and warm to appeal to preschool children. Upon release, it was well-received within its demographic, cementing its place as a staple of the annual cinematic tradition for families, while reinforcing the cultural significance of the Anpanman character as a symbol of self-sacrifice and kindness.
