Where it came from
Soukou Kihei Votoms: Haiiro no Hexe was produced by Production I.G as a 2026 feature film entry in the long-running Armored Trooper Votoms franchise. Released as part of a modern effort to revisit the gritty, low-fantasy military science fiction roots established by Ryosuke Takahashi in the early 1980s, the film focuses on the distinct mechanical aesthetic and bleak geopolitical tension that define the series.
The film's visual design aims to bridge the gap between traditional cel-style animation and contemporary digital rendering, specifically focusing on the tactile, industrial appearance of the Armored Troopers. By emphasizing the grounded, limited-mobility combat that earned the original 1983 series its cult following, the creative team sought to appeal to legacy fans while introducing the franchise's enduring 'real robot' philosophy to a new generation of viewers.
