Soukou Kihei Votoms: VOL.II HIGHLITS OF THE A.T. VOTOMS

Released in 1985, Soukou Kihei Votoms: Highlights of the A.T. Votoms serves as a compilation OVA that distills the complex narrative arc of the original 1983 television series into a more focused experience. As an installment of the Votoms franchise produced by Sunrise, it emerged during a period when the studio was heavily invested in expanding the reach of its gritty, 'real robot' military science fiction properties, aiming to offer both newcomers and existing fans a streamlined look at the series' pivotal battle sequences and character developments.

The production design captures the distinct aesthetic established by director Ryosuke Takahashi and mechanical designer Kunio Okawara. The series is celebrated for its grounded, industrial approach to mecha design, moving away from the heroic super-robot tropes of the era to emphasize the disposable nature of the Armored Troopers (A.T.). By highlighting the atmospheric world-building and the uncompromising survivalist themes of the original run, this compilation helped solidify the enduring cult reputation of the Votoms universe within the broader 1980s Japanese animation landscape.
