Where it came from
Soukou Kijo Iris was released in 2007 by Studio Pixy as an original video animation. The project emerged during a period of niche experimentation in the independent anime sector, where smaller studios explored high-concept mechanical and character designs intended for a dedicated, burgeoning domestic market of collectors and enthusiasts of the mecha-girl subgenre.
The visual direction and character concepts for Iris were crafted to emphasize the intersection of sleek mechanical aesthetics and expressive animation. While the title remains an obscure entry in the broader landscape of late-2000s direct-to-video releases, it serves as a distinct example of the era's focus on character-driven science fiction, reflecting the design sensibilities common among boutique studios attempting to carve out a unique identity within a competitive industry.
