Soushin Shoujo Matoi: Kabushiki Gaisha Knight Busters

Soushin Shoujo Matoi, or Matoi the Sacred Slayer, originally premiered as a television anime series in 2016, marking the studio White Fox's first foray into producing an original work rather than an adaptation. The series explores the life of Matoi Sumeragi, a middle school girl who gains the ability to channel gods through a ritual, blending magical girl tropes with Japanese shrine aesthetics. The narrative was designed to be a heartfelt exploration of a daughter's relationship with her absent mother, grounded in the traditions of the Tenman Shrine.

The Kabushiki Gaisha Knight Busters special was released in 2017 as a direct-to-video follow-up to the television series. It serves as a lighthearted, self-referential expansion of the show's universe, allowing the production team at White Fox to experiment with the established characters in a more comedic, meta-narrative framework. While the series received mixed reviews for its pacing, the special remains a niche curiosity for fans of White Fox's production style, demonstrating the studio's interest in diversifying its portfolio beyond its hallmark darker action titles.
