Steel Angel Kurumi 2

Steel Angel Kurumi 2 was produced in 2001 by OLM as a direct sequel to the original 1999 series, which was based on the manga by Kaishaku. The project emerged during a period of experimentation within the 'bishoujo' genre, shifting the tone slightly from its predecessor to introduce new mechanical heroines while maintaining the central premise of an artificial girl awakened by a human master. The production sought to expand the franchise's reach by integrating more action-oriented sequences and a refined visual style typical of early 2000s television animation.

The character designs were handled with the goal of evolving the aesthetic established in the first series, aiming for a cleaner, more fluid animation look to differentiate the new models from the original Kurumi. While the series was received by fans of the source material as a sentimental extension of the narrative, it generally occupied a niche space in the crowded landscape of early 2000s mecha-themed anime. It remains a hallmark of the specific stylistic bridge between late 90s character-driven dramas and the increasingly digitized production methods of the subsequent decade.
