Strawberry Marshmallow Encore

Strawberry Marshmallow Encore was produced in 2009 by studio Daume as a series of two original video animation episodes, extending the narrative of the original anime adaptation of Barasui's manga. The series was commissioned following the positive reception of the 2005 television run, focusing on the daily lives and whimsical interactions of four young girls and their mentor, Nobue. The production aimed to retain the distinctive, deceptively simple aesthetic of the source material while exploring slice-of-life vignettes that had not been fully captured in the previous episodic format.

The character designs and animation direction sought to emulate the soft, rounded art style of Barasui, emphasizing a pastel-hued visual atmosphere that became synonymous with the franchise. Produced during a period when the slice-of-life genre was cementing its popularity in the late 2000s, Encore was well-received by fans of the original series for its consistent tone and lighthearted storytelling. It remains a representative example of Daume's commitment to maintaining visual fidelity to niche manga adaptations of that era.
