Super Doll★Licca-chan: Licca-chan Zettai Zetsumei! Doll Knights no Kiseki

Super Doll Licca-chan: Licca-chan Zettai Zetsumei! Doll Knights no Kiseki was produced by Madhouse and released in 1999 as a theatrical companion to the popular magical girl television series. The film expands upon the premise of Licca-chan, a long-standing Japanese fashion doll icon, by recontextualizing her as a heroine who protects the world from evil through her transformation into various doll forms. This adaptation was part of a broader marketing strategy to elevate the character's appeal among young viewers by blending traditional toy aesthetics with the high-stakes narrative tropes common in late 1990s anime.

The film's visual identity reflects the signature style of Madhouse during that era, characterized by fluid animation and character designs that bridge the gap between doll-like proportions and expressive anime archetypes. Directed by Gisaburo Sugii, the production aimed to create a self-contained cinematic adventure that honored the franchise's history while providing a more polished aesthetic experience than the episodic television format. Upon its release, it was received as a niche entry in the shojo genre, primarily enjoyed by established fans of the Licca-chan franchise and enthusiasts of late 90s animation studios.
