Where it came from
Released in 2009 by Azone International, Superflat First Love is a notable entry in the company’s long-running Pure Neemo character doll series. It emerged during a period when Japanese designer toy and fashion doll culture was deeply influenced by the 'Superflat' art movement pioneered by Takashi Murakami. The doll reflects this aesthetic through its stylized proportions, oversized expressive eyes, and a curated fashion ensemble that blends contemporary street style with traditional Japanese doll craftsmanship.
The design of the figure focuses on a fusion of high-fashion sensibilities and anime-inspired character tropes, aimed at adult collectors who appreciate the technical articulation of the Pure Neemo body. The line was received as a premium collector's piece, celebrated for its intricate clothing details and the ability to strike natural poses. It represents a specific intersection of pop art theory and the specialized market for high-end Japanese poseable dolls.
