Takopi's Original Sin

Takopi's Original Sin, known in Japanese as Takopi no Genzai, began as a celebrated manga series by Taizan 5, serialized on Shonen Jump+ starting in 2021. The narrative, which explores themes of childhood trauma, bullying, and existential isolation through the lens of a naive extraterrestrial visitor, earned widespread critical acclaim for its emotionally heavy, unsettling tone and its subversion of traditional shonen tropes. It was widely regarded as a significant cultural touchstone for its unflinching look at the cruelty present in young lives.

The 2025 ONA adaptation, produced by the studio ENISHIYA, was created to bring Taizan 5’s distinctive visual storytelling to an animated format. The production team focused on maintaining the stark, minimalist aesthetic of the original manga while utilizing the medium of animation to emphasize the contrast between the alien Takopi’s colorful, simplistic design and the grim reality of the environment he inhabits. The project was received as a faithful interpretation of the source material's somber psychological core.
