Where it came from
Tales of the Rays: Everlasting Destiny was released as a concluding ONA—original net animation—for the mobile title Tales of the Rays, which served as a crossover hub for the long-running Tales role-playing game series. Produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, this production was designed to provide a narrative endpoint for the game's original protagonists, Ickx Neve and Mileena Weiss, following the announcement of the game's service termination in 2024.
The animation reflects the aesthetic established by the game's opening cinematics, utilizing digital techniques intended to bridge the gap between the franchise's traditional high-fantasy JRPG art style and the fluid action sequences expected of modern web-based animation. It was received by the community as a final love letter to the game's dedicated fanbase, focusing on emotional closure rather than the complex multiversal mechanics that defined the core gameplay experience.
