Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.

Where it came from
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki originated as an original video animation (OVA) series produced by AIC in 1992. Created by Masaki Kajishima and Hiroki Hayashi, the project began as a labor of love that evolved into a definitive harem-comedy and science fiction franchise. Its inception was driven by a desire to combine high-stakes space opera elements with character-driven domestic humor, ultimately setting the standard for the modern anime harem genre.
The series was visually characterized by its distinct early 90s aesthetic, featuring clean line work and fluid animation that helped differentiate it from contemporary television offerings. The design of the titular ship, Ryo-Ohki, and the complex cast of alien nobility and Earthlings was well received by viewers for its balance of slapstick comedy and intricate world-building. This initial OVA release was highly influential, spawning numerous sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations that cemented its place in anime history.
