Where it came from
Released in the late 2000s following the conclusion of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann television series, Parallel Works serves as a collection of experimental music videos and short stories. These segments were produced by the staff at Studio Gainax as a creative expansion of the show's core themes, allowing animators and directors to experiment with different visual styles, alternate realities, and non-canonical narratives outside the constraints of the main series arc.
The project features contributions from various key animators and creative talents who worked on the original production, including director Hiroyuki Imaishi and character designer Atsushi Nishigori. The collection was designed to celebrate the kinetic, high-energy spirit of the franchise while showcasing the unique artistic voices of the studio members. It was well-received by fans of the series for its avant-garde approach and its willingness to treat the established lore as a playground for visual experimentation.
