A stop-motion music video of bitter melon superhero named Gouyaaman (Bittermelonman). It is originally based on an insert song from the live-action TV series Churasan where Gouyaaman was an in-story yuru-chara a character created to help promote tourism to the dying town. In the TV series, Gouyaaman was a failure and the butt of jokes. Unprecedentedly, the TV series was popular and Gouyaaman became a real-life yuru-chara in Okinawa with merchandising.

Where it came from
Tenka Muteki no Gouyaaman originated as a character-led public service and educational initiative by NHK, designed to promote the regional culture and health benefits of goya, or bitter melon, associated with Okinawa. The character was developed as a superhero figure to engage children and families, utilizing the vibrant, humorous aesthetic common in Japanese children's programming to normalize the vegetable's distinct flavor and nutritional value through song and episodic storytelling.
The character design reflects a fusion of tokusatsu superhero tropes with local Okinawan iconography, blending traditional elements with a modern, approachable style. The production was part of a broader effort by the network to integrate regional pride into national educational content, and the character garnered a dedicated, if niche, following among viewers who appreciated the balance of campy charm and regional advocacy.
