Where it came from
Released in 2009, Tennis no Ouji-sama OVA ANOTHER STORY: Kako to Mirai no Message serves as a direct follow-up to the conclusion of the original Prince of Tennis anime series. Produced by studio M.S.C, these episodes were designed to fill narrative gaps and explore the backstories of secondary characters who had gained significant popularity among the franchise's fanbase, shifting the focus away from the primary national tournament arc.
The project was crafted to offer a more nuanced look at the history of the sport’s protagonists and their rival schools. By choosing an OVA format, the production team allowed for a more specialized, character-driven storytelling approach that moved beyond the typical tournament structure. It was received as a nostalgic retrospective, valued by longtime fans for its deeper psychological examination of the players before the transition into the New Prince of Tennis era.
