Where it came from
Teppen, released in 1996, is a two-part original video animation (OVA) that captures the quintessential aesthetic of mid-1990s Japanese animation. Produced during a period when the OVA market was flourishing as a medium for specialized or experimental storytelling outside of traditional television broadcast constraints, the series aimed to blend high-energy action with the distinctive character designs that defined the era's visual language.
The animation reflects the collaborative efforts of the studio teams who sought to push the limits of contemporary cel-based production techniques. While the project remains a niche entry in the broader landscape of 90s animation, it is frequently cited by collectors as a representative example of the period's stylistic transition, often praised for its illustrative consistency and the ambitious, albeit compact, narrative structure characteristic of the decade's direct-to-video releases.
