This theatrical version based on the manga by Yokoyama Mitsuteru, deals with the genius boy detective Kaneda Shotaro and his giant robot, Tetsujin 28, set in Tokyo ten years after the end of the Second World War.
Shotaro's missing brother appears as a a new character who was trained as a pilot of the soldier robot Tetsujin which Japan had created for the Second World War. However, with the end of the war, there was nothing left for him but a peaceful Japan. In the meantime, "Destruction Bombs" are found in many places in Tokyo. The bombs were developed by Professor Kaneda, the creator of Tetsujin 28 and Shotaro's father, as the ultimate weapons to protect the mainland. If the bombs explode, Tokyo will be reduced to ashes.

Where it came from
Tetsujin 28: Morning Moon of Midday was produced in 2007 by Palm Studio as a direct-to-video feature, serving as a companion piece to the earlier 2004 television series reboot of the classic Mitsuteru Yokoyama manga. Directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa, the project aimed to revisit the dark, grounded aesthetic of the 1960s source material while distancing itself from the more colorful iterations of the character that appeared in international markets.
The film is notable for its deliberate attempt to explore the post-war psychological weight behind the creation of Tetsujin 28. Imagawa utilized the medium to emphasize the human costs of robot warfare, focusing on a narrative that balances domestic tension with mechanical spectacle. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a niche title for dedicated fans of the classic franchise who appreciated its departure from typical mecha tropes in favor of a melancholic, period-accurate tone.
