Thanks for being Lifeless

Thanks for Being Lifeless is a seminal zine by the underground artist and cartoonist Tom Neely, released during the height of the early 2000s independent zine movement. Conceived as a raw, introspective exploration of disillusionment and social detachment, the work captures the gritty, DIY aesthetic that defined the era's alternative comics scene. Neely utilized a stark, monochromatic visual language to mirror the existential themes of the text, emphasizing the isolation inherent in modern urban living.

The publication was part of a broader wave of small-press output that sought to bridge the gap between traditional illustration and personal memoir. By stripping away conventional narrative structures, Neely aimed to evoke a sense of shared alienation among his readers. Upon its release, it was noted by critics for its uncompromising sincerity and became a foundational piece for collectors of contemporary underground literature who value the unpolished, authentic voice of the small-press medium.
