The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses

The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses, known in Japan as Megami no Café Terrace, began as a manga series by Koji Seo in 2021 before being adapted into this 2023 television series by Tezuka Productions. The story centers on Hayato Kasukabe, a young man who returns to his seaside hometown to settle his late grandmother's estate, only to discover a struggling café staffed by five distinct women. The series belongs to the harem comedy genre, a staple of modern Japanese animation, and follows the tradition of character-driven romantic comedies that blend themes of legacy, found family, and lighthearted conflict.

Tezuka Productions was tasked with bringing Koji Seo’s character designs to the screen, focusing on distinct visual identities for each of the five heroines to reflect their varied personalities and backgrounds. The animation studio aimed to balance the comedic timing characteristic of the manga with the scenic, atmospheric backdrop of a coastal café. Upon its 2023 release, the series was noted by viewers for its adherence to established rom-com tropes while providing a polished, high-fidelity look that helped distinguish it within a crowded field of seasonal anime productions.
