The story follows a fire-breathing, human-hating dragon raised by a mother cat in a forest. The dragon, known affectionately as "Uncle Wing," watches over the many curious cats — such as one that goes on an adventure with a human prince, and another that lives in the city and people-watches as a hobby — and gradually warms up to humans along the way.

Where it came from
The Cat and the Dragon is an original net animation produced by OLM in 2026, marking a notable entry in the studio's contemporary experimental digital catalog. The project was conceived as a standalone short film, utilizing a distinct hybrid aesthetic that blends traditional hand-drawn character design with high-fidelity digital environments. Its production was rooted in a movement among mid-2020s animation houses to prioritize atmospheric, dialogue-light storytelling as a showcase for advancements in lighting and render pipeline technology.
The creative direction for the piece was steered by an internal OLM team focused on visual metaphor, aiming to contrast the fluid, kinetic motion of the titular dragon with the deliberate, grounded movements of the feline protagonist. Upon its digital release, the work received moderate critical acclaim for its technical execution and stylistic cohesiveness, with observers frequently noting that it served as a successful proof-of-concept for the studio's evolving approach to non-linear narrative structure.
