Where it came from
The Disappearance of Conan Edogawa: The Worst Two Days in History was produced by TMS Entertainment to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Detective Conan manga series. Released in 2014, the special was designed to celebrate two decades of Gosho Aoyama’s iconic creation by returning to the franchise's foundational premise: the forced transformation of high school detective Shinichi Kudo into the child-like Conan Edogawa.
The narrative was crafted by screenwriter Kenji Uchida, who brought a cinematic, suspenseful tone to the project by incorporating elements of amnesia and international espionage. The production aimed to subvert viewer expectations by temporarily stripping Conan of his deductive prowess, emphasizing his vulnerability. It was well-received by fans for its ambitious scope and for successfully blending the nostalgic roots of the series with a modern, high-stakes mystery aesthetic.
