Where it came from
The File of Young Kindaichi Returns 2 is a 2015 television anime series produced by Toei Animation, serving as the second season of the revival of the iconic mystery franchise based on the manga by Yozaburo Kanari and Seimaru Amagi. This production arrived during a period of renewed interest in the classic detective series, aiming to modernize the narrative style for a contemporary audience while retaining the suspenseful, locked-room mystery tropes that defined the original 1990s run.
The character designs were handled by the Toei animation team, who sought to balance the gritty, noir-inspired aesthetic of the original manga with the smoother, high-definition digital standards of mid-2010s television. Upon release, the series was received as a faithful adaptation that maintained the signature intellectual challenge of the Kindaichi mysteries, garnering praise from long-time fans for its adherence to the source material's challenging puzzles and atmospheric storytelling.
