Once upon a time, in a far, faraway place, there were two lands. The world was divided into an inner land and an outer land. People feared the outer land, inhabited by eerie beings, the carriers of curse. One day, on the border to the inner land inhabited by humans, one such being finds a girl on heaps of abandoned dead bodies. The girl says her name is Shiva and shows affection to the "being" who found her, calling him "Teacher."
This is a story of two people—one human, one inhuman—who linger in the hazy twilight that separates night from day.

Where it came from
The Girl from the Other Side OVA, released in 2022, serves as an animated adaptation of Nagabe's dark fantasy manga series. Produced by WIT Studio, the project was launched via a successful crowdfunding campaign, signaling the audience's deep desire to see the manga’s distinct, sketch-like aesthetic translated into motion. The production sought to preserve the intimacy and melancholic tone of the source material rather than adopting a traditional high-octane anime style, resulting in a unique visual experience that prioritizes mood and texture.
Directed by Yutaro Kubo and Satomi Maiya, the adaptation employs a minimalist aesthetic that echoes the illustrative quality of the original prints. The artistic approach focuses on the stark contrast between light and shadow, emphasizing the bond between Shiva and the Teacher. Upon its release, the OVA was widely praised by critics and fans for its faithful, atmospheric realization of the manga's fairy-tale gothic atmosphere, effectively capturing the emotional weight of the quiet, dialogue-sparse narrative.
