Where it came from
The Idolm@ster: Live for You! was released in 2008 as a direct-to-video original animation (OVA) accompanying the limited edition of the Xbox 360 game of the same name. Produced by Studio Actas, the project served as an extension of the franchise's burgeoning multimedia presence, intended to build deeper character lore for the 765 Production idols through an animated narrative that bridged the gap between game mechanics and character-driven storytelling.
The animation design sought to faithfully replicate the 3D models from the game while translating them into a hand-drawn 2D aesthetic that captured the bright, energetic tone of the idol industry. Received primarily by the established player base, the OVA was noted for its promotional utility, effectively heightening the emotional stakes of the console game by providing a visual prologue that emphasized the camaraderie and individual aspirations of the core cast.
