Where it came from
The Immorals, released in 2006 by Kitty Media, represents a specific period in the distribution of adult-oriented Japanese animation for Western markets. Produced as an original video animation, or OVA, it followed the conventions of the medium during the mid-2000s, focusing on compact, high-concept storytelling intended for the direct-to-video market. It reflects the industrial practice of licensing niche titles to cater to an established demographic of enthusiasts who sought imported content via dedicated physical media channels.
The design and production values of The Immorals adhere to the aesthetic standards common to mid-budget productions of that era, emphasizing character-driven narratives within a concise runtime. As a title under the Kitty Media banner, it is characterized by its intent to translate and localize niche animation for an English-speaking audience. While the title occupies a specialized space in animation history, it is recognized primarily as an artifact of the physical media distribution model that defined that particular segment of the independent animation industry.
