Where it came from
The Legend of Kentauros was produced in 1987 by Wako Production, a studio known for its work on various television anime series during the 1980s. Released as an original video animation (OVA) during the height of the direct-to-video market boom in Japan, the production sought to capitalize on the increasing popularity of fantasy-themed narratives that allowed for higher production values than standard television broadcasts.
The title reflects the era's fascination with mythology and epic storytelling, blending traditional animation techniques with the creative freedom provided by the OVA format. Designed to appeal to viewers interested in adult-oriented fantasy, the project focused on character-driven conflict and mythic imagery. While it remains a niche entry in the studio's catalog, it serves as a representative example of the experimental and diverse storytelling prevalent in the late 1980s Japanese home video industry.
