The Legend of Manxmouse

It is based on the 1976 children's novel by Paul Gallico, which tells the story of an adventurous, tail-less mouse named Manxmouse who seeks to find the legendary Isle of Cats. The film emerged during a period when Nippon Animation was successfully adapting classic Western children's literature for the screen, following the success of their World Masterpiece Theater series.

The film was directed by Hiroshi Saito and features character designs that emphasize the whimsical, storybook aesthetic characteristic of late 1970s Japanese animation.
