Where it came from
The Master of Killing Time, or Kiri no Majo, was released as a series of special shorts in 2014 by Media Factory. These specials served as supplementary material to the overarching anime project, intended to deepen the atmospheric world-building of the main series through vignettes that explore the mundane yet eerie daily lives of the characters.
The visual direction and character design were crafted to maintain continuity with the studio's broader aesthetic, prioritizing a minimalist, contemplative style. By focusing on quieter narrative beats, the production aimed to offer a more experimental, low-stakes companion piece that was well-received by fans of the franchise for its atmospheric departure from the primary high-tension plot lines.
