When Saku took in a stray black cat, she never expected that he would become the equivalent of a housekeeping life partner. But Yukichi, a giant cat who towers over Saku, is not your ordinary feline. He takes great pride in his culinary skills, and a good sale at the supermarket always gets his whiskers twitching. Saku may not have her act together yet, but at least she has Yukichi!

Where it came from
The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today is a 2023 television anime adaptation based on the manga series by Hitsuji Yamada. Produced by the studio GoHands—with Frontier Works credited as part of the production committee—the series was crafted to translate the cozy, domestic-fantasy tone of the source material into animation. It follows the life of a burnt-out office worker, Saku, and her extraordinary, giant cat Yukichi, who has learned to manage their household and culinary needs with human-like precision.
The visual direction, overseen by chief director Susumu Kudo, emphasizes the contrast between Saku's chaotic professional life and the meticulously organized home life maintained by Yukichi. The show became notable for its distinctive, vibrant color palette and focus on the 'iyashikei' or healing genre, aiming to provide viewers with a sense of comfort and escapism. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences who appreciated its gentle humor and the unique, anthropomorphic dynamic between the protagonist and her feline companion.
