Where it came from
The Sprites of Floria was produced by Yokohama Animation Lab in 2018 as an original net animation, or ONA, designed to showcase the studio's technical versatility. It emerged during a period when smaller independent studios were increasingly utilizing digital platforms to distribute experimental, short-form content that leaned heavily into ethereal, high-fantasy aesthetics.
The visual direction focuses on fluid, high-contrast character movement intended to evoke a sense of whimsical naturalism. While the title functions primarily as a demonstration of the studio’s artistic capabilities rather than a mainstream commercial narrative, it remains a notable example of late-2010s digital animation craft, recognized by animation enthusiasts for its polished lighting effects and focus on atmospheric world-building.
