Where it came from
The Testament of Sister New Devil DEPARTURES was released in 2018 as a direct-to-video original animation project, serving as a concluding entry to the anime adaptation of Tetsuto Uesu's light novel series. Produced by Studio IMS, this OVA was intended to wrap up the narrative arcs left open by the previous television seasons, focusing on the high-stakes, supernatural domestic dynamics between Basara Toujo and his stepsisters.
The design and aesthetic choices reflect the signature style of the series, which blends high-octane fantasy action with a heavy emphasis on fan-service and intricate character designs originally illustrated by Nekosuke Okuma. While the production team aimed to satisfy the dedicated fanbase of the light novels, the series remains noted for its polarizing reputation, balancing its intense, provocative themes with the complex world-building typical of the harem fantasy genre.
