Where it came from
The Vampire Dies in No Time is an anime adaptation of the manga series by Itaru Bonnoki, produced by the acclaimed animation studio Madhouse and released in 2021. The series emerged from a comedic subversion of supernatural tropes, focusing on the unlikely partnership between a powerful vampire and a vampire hunter. It was developed during a period where Madhouse sought to balance their historical reputation for gritty, serious storytelling with more lighthearted, gag-oriented projects.
Directed by Hiroshi Koujina, the design approach prioritized expressive, caricature-style character work to match the frantic pace of the source material's slapstick humor. The production is characterized by its high-energy animation style and meta-commentary, which reflects a deliberate effort to distinguish itself from more traditional dark fantasy vampire media. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences for its rapid-fire comedic timing and its affectionate lampooning of common genre conventions.
