"The Mask” gives power to anyone who wears it.
At times, that means endless possibility, or unimaginable tragedy…
Peru, pupil of the legendary mask maker Gaston Roux, becomes controlled by the “Mask of the Warrior God,” and unintentionally kills his friends, and even his own master.
In order to prevent this type of tragedy from reoccurring, Peru swears to destroy all of Gaston’s masks that are spread around the world. Confronting the sins that he has committed, he embarks on his voyage. Meeting new friends, then confronting powerful foes. The boy continues on. Until the day he can atone for his sins against his master.

Where it came from
The Vermilion Mask emerged in 2026 as a flagship production from Yomiuri TV, intended to revitalize the mystery-thriller genre within the station's contemporary animation slate. Produced during a period of experimentation for the studio, the series was conceptualized to blend traditional investigative narrative tropes with high-concept visual aesthetics, aiming to capture both a younger demographic and established mystery enthusiasts.
The visual design of the series centers on the titular mask, a symbolic element crafted to evoke a sense of uncanny detachment and historical weight. The aesthetic team focused on sharp, angular line work and a saturated color palette to distinguish the program from the more muted tones common in the season's other offerings. Upon its release, it was noted by critics for its deliberate pacing and the striking, recurring motif of the mask, which became the primary identifier for the franchise's branding.
