Where it came from
The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbor Kingdom was developed as a television anime series slated for a 2026 release, adapted from the popular light novel series written by Reiwa and illustrated by Minami. This production is part of a broader wave of 'villainess' subgenre adaptations, which reimagines traditional shoujo tropes by placing the protagonist in the role of the antagonist within an otome game setting. The project was entrusted to Studio DEEN, a long-standing Japanese animation studio known for its extensive portfolio of fantasy and romance adaptations.
The design philosophy behind the anime seeks to balance the series' comedic tone with the visual elegance expected of the genre. By emphasizing character expressions and courtly aesthetics, the production aims to capture the lighthearted power dynamic between the heroine and the visiting prince. While the series continues the industry's trend of mining web-novel intellectual property for animation, its reception remains a subject of anticipation within the anime community, as fans look to see how the studio translates the character-driven humor of the original prose into a serialized visual format.
