Where it came from
The World God Only Knows: Flag 0 is a promotional original video animation produced by studio Manglobe, released in 2010. It served as a prelude to the main television anime series, which is based on the manga written and illustrated by Tamiki Wakaki. The production was intended to generate buzz and introduce the high-concept premise of Keima Katsuragi, a cynical 'god of gaming' who must capture the hearts of real-world girls to save them from demonic possession.
The animation style, overseen by the creative team at Manglobe, was designed to mirror the vibrant, rhythmic visual storytelling of the source material. It balanced traditional rom-com tropes with meta-fictional commentary on the dating simulation genre. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received by fans of the series for establishing the technical quality and tonal consistency that the subsequent full-length series would maintain throughout its run.
