Arisa Minase is a cheerful, gentle girl who lives peacefully with her kind parents and older brother, and who has a lot of friends. On the night before Arisa's birthday, she is eating cake with her brother when the clock strikes midnight. At that exact moment, suddenly the ground opens beneath her feet and Arisa is taken to Wonderland where the inhabitants, who resemble people she knows in her world, all call her Alice. Arisa relives the same day in Wonderland over and over, and she must find the real Alice to be able to break the cycle and return to her own world.

Where it came from
Trick or Alice was released as an original video animation in 2016 by the studio An DerCen, based on the visual novel of the same name. The project emerged during a period of rising interest in adaptations of romantic suspense visual novels, aiming to translate the dark, surreal aesthetic of the source material into an episodic format. It follows the narrative of a young woman named Alice who is transported to a distorted version of Wonderland, serving as a darker reimagining of Lewis Carroll's classic tale.
The character designs and animation were intended to capture the gothic and whimsical tone established by the original game's art direction. By focusing on a confined, mysterious setting and psychological tension, the production sought to appeal to fans of the original visual novel who appreciated its blend of fantasy and mystery. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a niche title, valued by followers of the franchise for its atmospheric visuals and its commitment to the source material's eccentric world-building.
