Where it came from
Tsugumomo, adapted into an anime series by studio Zero-G in 2017, originates from the long-running manga by Yoshikazu Hamada. The series belongs to the supernatural comedy genre, focusing on the concept of tsukumogami—objects that gain a soul after existing for a long time. The narrative follows Kazuya Kagami and his companion Kiriha, a sentient obi, as they navigate battles against folklore-inspired spirits.
The production by Zero-G was noted for its attempt to balance high-energy action sequences with the series' signature ecchi and comedy elements. Yoshikazu Hamada’s original character designs, known for their specific aesthetic and intricate fight choreography, were translated into animation with a focus on fluid movement during combat. Upon its release, the series received mixed but distinct attention for its juxtaposition of lighthearted school-life tropes and intense, high-stakes supernatural confrontations.
