Where it came from
Tsugumomo2 OVA was produced by studio Zero-G and released in 2020 as a direct-to-video accompaniment to the second season of the anime adaptation of Yoshiya Hama’s manga series. The project was primarily funded through a successful crowdfunding campaign, reflecting the dedicated niche following of the Tsugumomo franchise and a desire from the production team to adapt specific, more mature or unfiltered segments of the source material that were better suited for an OVA format than a television broadcast.
The production team, led by director Ryoichi Kuraya, aimed to maintain the high-energy aesthetic and detailed character designs of the series while exploring the complex supernatural dynamics established in the manga. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received by existing fans for its faithfulness to the original art style and its uncompromising tone, though like the broader series, it remains a specialized entry in the supernatural-action genre that targets a specific demographic of viewers interested in the series' ongoing narrative.
