Tsuki wa Higashi ni Hi wa Nishi ni: Operation Sanctuary OVA

The Tsuki wa Higashi ni Hi wa Nishi ni: Operation Sanctuary OVA was produced by Studio Radix in 2004 as an extension of the popular visual novel developed by August. The anime adaptation emerged during a period when the visual novel industry was increasingly transitioning its titles to animation formats to capitalize on established fanbases. This specific release served as a standalone conclusion or supplemental narrative to the game's branching storylines, aiming to capture the romantic and slice-of-life atmosphere that defined the source material.

The design and animation aesthetic were helmed by the team at Radix, who sought to maintain the visual fidelity of the original character designs established by the artist Bekkankou. The production focused on adapting the game's sentimental tone for the screen, emphasizing the setting of Amagase. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a niche product intended for the dedicated player base of the original visual novel rather than a mainstream breakout, reflecting the standard industry practice of the era to provide supplemental content for otaku-oriented properties.
