Where it came from
Tsurune: The Linking Shot serves as the second season of the Kyoto Animation series Tsurune, continuing the adaptation of the light novel series by Kotoko Ayano. Following the initial 2018 television series, this installment was produced amidst the studio's broader efforts to maintain its signature high-fidelity aesthetic, focusing on the refined art of Japanese kyudo archery. It follows protagonist Minato Narumiya as he and his teammates navigate the emotional and technical complexities of competitive archery while transitioning into new academic chapters.
The animation direction, led by Takuya Yamamura, emphasizes atmospheric lighting and meticulous character movement to mirror the meditative nature of the sport. Known for their dedication to authentic depiction, the production team consulted with archery practitioners to ensure the mechanics of the bow and the psychological tension of the archer were portrayed with grounded realism. Upon its 2023 release, the series was well-received for its quiet, contemplative pacing and the studio's commitment to visual depth, further solidifying its place within the contemporary sports anime genre.
