Twin Signal

Twin Signal, the 1996 OVA series produced by studio Tokyo Kids, was adapted from the manga by Sachiko Osaragi. The series follows the adventures of Signal, an experimental android created by Professor Otoi, who must navigate life while balancing his child-like persona with a powerful adult combat mode. The production emerged during a period of experimentation in the mid-nineties animation industry, where studios sought to adapt popular comedic sci-fi manga into short-form home video releases.

The character design and visual direction aimed to capture the energetic, slapstick tone of Osaragi’s original work. The OVA was received as a lighthearted genre piece that relied on the charm of its central premise rather than the high-budget spectacle typical of contemporary OVA heavyweights. While it did not achieve massive mainstream recognition, it remains a notable example of the era's focus on character-driven comedy in the sci-fi subgenre.
