Rokuro Enmado is a young boy who used to be a powerful aspiring exorcist, before a tragic incident left his friend dead and made him abandon the profession. One day, he has a fateful encounter with Benio Adashino, a girl around his age and a well known exorcist from the east. According to prophecy, Rokuro and Benio are the "Twin Star Exorcists", and are destined to marry and have a child which will be the ultimate exorcist, capable of cleansing all evil spirits, or Kegare, from the world.
When Rokuro's best friend Ryogo goes missing, Rokuro is forced to ask Benio for help to enter Magano, the realm of the evil Kegare, to rescue him!

Where it came from
Twin Star Exorcists, or Sōsei no Onmyōji, debuted in 2016 as an anime adaptation of Yoshiaki Sukeno’s manga series. Produced by Studio Pierrot, the series was designed to translate the supernatural action and character-driven drama of the source material into a long-form television format. The production aimed to capture the intensity of the manga's exorcism battles while expanding on the central dynamic between the two protagonists, Rokuro and Benio, who are prophesied to bring an end to the war against the Kegare.
The series received a mixed critical reception, with praise often directed at the core character designs and the chemistry between the leads, balanced against discourse regarding the series' deviation from the manga's canon midway through its run. Studio Pierrot leveraged its experience with high-octane shonen action to define the show's visual style, resulting in a distinct aesthetic that remains a notable entry in the studio’s mid-2010s catalog of supernatural fantasy adaptations.
