Uchuu Neko: Mardock no Bouken

Uchuu Neko: Mardock no Bouken was released in 2016 as a short-form original net animation produced by Asura Film. The project emerged during a period of experimentation within the Japanese animation industry, where smaller studios utilized online distribution platforms to showcase niche, highly stylized concepts that did not necessarily fit the traditional broadcast television model. Its aesthetic leanings toward surrealism and feline-centric science fiction were intended to appeal to a demographic interested in atmospheric, experimental storytelling.

The production sought to blend traditional cel-style sensibilities with contemporary digital compositing techniques, emphasizing a whimsical, retro-futuristic space adventure. While the project remained a relatively quiet entry in Asura Film's catalogue, it was noted by enthusiasts of independent animation for its distinctive color palette and character designs. The work serves as a representative example of mid-2010s experimental web animation, prioritizing mood and visual rhythm over expansive narrative arcs.
