Where it came from
Unlimited Fafnir was produced by Studio Diomedéa and released as a television anime series in 2015. Adapted from the light novel series written by Tsukasa Yamakuchi and illustrated by Kohada Shimesaka, the project emerged during a period of high popularity for the light novel-to-anime pipeline within the fantasy and action genres.
The series focuses on the concept of 'D,' individuals with supernatural powers who attend an elite academy. The character designs and visual direction aimed to translate Shimesaka's distinct aesthetic into animation, though the final production faced mixed critical reception regarding its pacing and adherence to common tropes within the supernatural-battle genre.
