You don’t have to be psychic to know that Hyoubu Kyousuke is trouble waiting to happen, but having psychic powers of your own may be your only chance if you want to stand against him. One of the most powerful espers on the planet, Hyoubu's incredible range of abilities extends as far as controlling his own aging process, and the potential strength of all his talents combined is so terrifying that he wears a device that limits their use except in cases of extreme emergency. The time is coming, however, when Hyoubu will need to unleash everything he has. Because sometimes it takes a villain to do what heroes can’t, and as the leader of the secret organization PANDRA, Hyoubu's dedicated his life to fighting those who would entrap, enslave, or kill anyone with psychic powers. Now PANDRA itself is in danger and, to combat that deadly threat, the gloves and limiter are coming off!

Where it came from
Unlimited Psychic Squad, known in Japan as Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited, was produced by Studio Manglobe and aired in 2013 as a spin-off of the long-running Zettai Karen Children franchise. While the original series focused on a lighthearted, comedic take on young psychics, this installment shifted the tone significantly toward a darker, more mature narrative. It centers on the character Kyosuke Hyobu, serving as an anti-hero study that explores the complex ideologies and past traumas of the series' antagonist.
The animation direction and visual style were crafted to reflect this shift toward the seinen demographic, moving away from the bright aesthetics of the original work into more stylized, atmospheric territory. By placing Hyobu at the helm, the creative team aimed to provide a deeper character analysis that resonated with fans who wanted a grittier perspective on the established universe. Upon release, it was noted for its polished production values and its successful departure from the source material’s established genre expectations.
