Urusei Yatsura (2022) Seasons 3 & 4

The 2022 revival of Urusei Yatsura, produced by David Production, serves as a modern reimagining of Rumiko Takahashi’s seminal 1978 manga. Released in 2024, the third and fourth seasons continue the studio's mandate to adapt classic chapters for a contemporary audience while honoring the frantic, comedic spirit of the original material. The production aims to balance the retro aesthetic of the Showa-era source material with polished, high-definition animation techniques, bringing the escapades of Ataru Moroboshi and the iconic Lum Invader to a new generation of viewers.

The series design is overseen by character designer Naoyuki Asano, who was tasked with updating Takahashi's distinct character archetypes without losing their nostalgic charm. The series was met with a reception that highlights the enduring cultural significance of the franchise, serving as both a bridge to the past for long-time fans and an accessible entry point for modern anime audiences. By maintaining the surreal, screwball tone that defined the original, the studio sustains a legacy that has remained influential in the medium for over four decades.
