True Calendar (T.C.) 71 - A new age where 70% of the human population lives in space thanks to the development of "Dyson Sphere", a city in space.
The world is divided into two main powers: The Dorssia Military Pact Federation, a power which grew out of a military alliance, and the Atlantic Rim United States (ARUS), which grew in power as it expanded its trade agreements. The minor nation of JIOR has declared neutrality between these two forces and maintains its peace through economic prosperity.
Within the JIOR's Sphere, Haruto Tokishima lived an ordinary life as a high school student in the division known as "Module 77"—until the Dorssian military begins their sudden invasion!
But the whole world will be shaken when Haruto meets the mysterious humanoid weapon, Valvrave!

Where it came from
Valvrave the Liberator was produced by the acclaimed studio Sunrise and premiered in 2013 as an original mecha anime project. The series emerged during a period of experimentation within the genre, attempting to blend high-stakes political drama and cosmic horror with the traditional giant robot spectacle. Its creation was spearheaded by director Kou Matsuo and writer Ichiro Okouchi, who aimed to subvert viewer expectations through volatile character arcs and a rapidly shifting narrative tone.
The character designs were handled by Katsura Hoshino, best known for her work on D.Gray-man, whose distinct aesthetic contributed to the show's stylized, youthful visual identity. Upon release, the series became a lightning rod for debate within the anime community due to its unconventional pacing and intense, often jarring plot twists. While it polarized audiences, it is frequently cited as a quintessential example of the 'so bad it's good' cultural phenomenon, maintaining a cult following for its audacity and refusal to adhere to standard mecha tropes.
