Vermeil in Gold

Vermeil in Gold, known in Japan as Kinsō no Vermeil, was produced by the studio Staple Entertainment and premiered in the summer of 2022. It is an adaptation of the manga series written by Kōta Amana and illustrated by Yōko Umezu, which began serialization in Monthly Shōnen Gangan in 2018. The series was created to bridge the gap between fantasy academic adventure and the high-stakes, magical-bond tropes common in shōnen storytelling.

The character design for the anime adaptation was handled by Kiyoshi Tateishi, who sought to capture the distinct aesthetic of the original manga while ensuring the visual fluidity required for a television series. The narrative focuses on the relationship between Alto Goldfield and the titular demon Vermeil, emphasizing a dynamic of summoned companion and master. Upon its release, the series was noted for its unconventional take on magical academy conventions and its focus on the deepening connection between the two protagonists.
