A song from a concept album about an imaginary town that is built on top of a catfish. All of the songs are stories that happen in the town. The idea of having a miniature town was one of Yonezu's first when planning the album, and he created characters and stories for the people who lived in the town. Yonezu considers the lyrics of "vivi" to be the closest to his own feelings.

Where it came from
Vivi Ornitier is a central character first introduced in the 2000 role-playing game Final Fantasy IX, developed by Square. Designed by artist Toshiyuki Itahana, the character was conceived to embody a sense of melancholy and existential wonder. Visually, Vivi draws inspiration from classic fantasy archetypes like the black mage, featuring a wide-brimmed hat and obscured features, yet the design intentionally pivots away from menace toward a soft, relatable appearance that mirrors the character’s internal quest for identity.
The reception of the character has been overwhelmingly positive, with Vivi frequently cited as one of the most emotionally resonant figures in the franchise. Critics and players alike have praised the character for how his narrative arc explores complex themes such as mortality and the purpose of existence. Through his distinctive silhouette and gentle animation style, Vivi serves as a quintessential example of how character design can be used to anchor philosophical themes in an approachable, iconic format.
